CALLING ALL SANDY VOLUNTEERS

If your district is closed on Friday, and you or your members are interested in providing aid to victims of Sandy in the form of volunteering or making donations, please contact the UniServ office.  If enough people volunteer, we will organize a trip to a shore community.

CALLING ALL PRESIDENTS!

As you know, CCCEA is sponsoring a Member Benefits Fair on Thursday, October 11, 2012 at the Crowne Plaza in Cherry Hill.  This event is always a good time for everyone.  It is also an opportunity for our members to meet face to face with NJEA vendors.  It is a good reminder of the value of NJEA membership.  There will be many discounts, prizes, and great food.  Members will have an opportunity to win a $25 gift card, technology kit, Sahara Sam's tickets, Morey's Piers tickets, digital video recorder, optical frame and case, and much more.

The NJEA UniServ office has just learned that the county has purchased an HD Kindle Fire, which will be given away to one lucky member attending the fair.

Please reach out to your members and remind them of this event, and above all, encourage them to attend.

Please RSVP no later than Monday, October 8 to cccea@verizon.net or call Sherry Bumm at 856-489-1267.  Your reps are looking forward to having a great time with you and your members.

PILOT TEACHER EVALUATION PROGRAM EXTENDED

Superintendents received notice from the DOE yesterday that the pilot teacher evaluation program has been extended to a second year. There is no requirement that non-pilot districts implement a new model in the 2012-2013 school year. Implementation will occur in the 2013-2014 school year.

There is no need for non-pilot districts to pick a model and change their evaluation system immediately. For more information, consider attending the Evaluation workshop at CCCEA on February 16th. Contact cccea@verizon.net to sign up.

SCHOOL BOARD ELECTIONS

As a result of recent legislative changes, boards can now choose to hold their school board elections in November. In order to do this, boards of education will need to adopt policy to make those changes. Please contact your business office, and monitor school board minutes and meetings to determine what direction your board will be taking regarding the elections. We are asking local presidents to get back to their UniServ office and let us know what your board plans to do regarding the change of election.
